If you need yet another reason why it makes sense to have vinyl siding done on your home, the results of a new study might just be what you were waiting for.
According to a recent report by BEES (Building for Environmental and Economic Sustainability), both vinyl and insulated vinyl siding are a better choice for the home when you are looking to lower your environmental impact.
Over other cladding types, vinyl has the Environmental Impact Score (EIS). That means if your home currently has wood, cement or brick and mortar on it, then you’re not doing optimally in terms of protecting the environment. Issues like ozone depletion, smog and global warming are a result of poor protection.
Here are a couple of key points from the study:
- Over Cedar board siding, Vinyl is a more optimal choice for stopping ozone depletion, smog, global warming, acidification and most notably eutrophication – which is the excessive richness of nutrients found in lakes and other bodies of water like from runoff. It causes dense growth of plant life and death of animal life from lack of oxygen.
- With fiber cement being replaced by vinyl siding, there are improvements in the non-carcinogenic category and by replacing brick and mortar with vinyl siding, improvements in energy demand and renewable energy are significant.
