Retractable Awnings for Decks & Patios
Retractable Awnings for Decks and Patios in Connecticut
A retractable awning turns a hot, sun-baked deck or patio into shaded outdoor living space you can use all summer, then rolls away when you want the sun back. Aladdin Inc has installed retractable awnings for Connecticut homeowners since 1949, and we are the area’s original Sunesta dealer. Every awning is custom made to fit your deck, patio or porch, in a fabric and color that suits your home.
Whether you are eating outside, entertaining, keeping the kids out of the sun or just relaxing with a book, a retractable patio awning gives you cooling shade, UV protection and shelter from a passing shower. It also keeps direct sun off your windows and sliding doors, which helps keep the rooms behind them cooler.
Retractable Patio Awnings and Deck Awnings, Made to Fit
Every retractable awning we install is built to your measurements. Custom frames are available in widths up to 40 feet with projections up to 23 feet, so one awning can cover a small deck or a wide patio. You choose from more than 100 weatherproof fabric options, from solids to classic stripes, and we help you pick a style that complements your siding, trim and outdoor furniture. Our gallery of awning installations shows the range of looks we have delivered across Connecticut.

Motorized or Manual Hand Crank Retractable Awnings
Retractable awnings open and close one of two ways. A manual hand crank awning is the simplest and least expensive option. A motorized retractable awning opens at the touch of a remote or wall switch, and can be fitted with a sun and wind sensor that retracts the awning automatically when the wind picks up. Motorized models are the popular choice for larger awnings and for anyone who wants to use the awning every day without effort. Our guide to hand crank versus motorized retractable awnings walks through the differences.
Why Choose Aladdin for Your Retractable Awning
Sunesta is the pioneer in the retractable awning industry, and Aladdin is the area’s original Sunesta dealer. Our awnings carry the exclusive Sunesta lifetime warranty, and our installers have been fitting awnings to Connecticut homes for decades, so they know how to mount an awning properly on vinyl siding, brick, stucco or a roof. We are patio awning design specialists: we measure your space, recommend the right width, projection and pitch, and handle the installation from start to finish. How Much Does a Retractable Awning Cost?
Retractable awning cost depends on the width and projection, whether it is manual or motorized, the fabric you choose and options such as a wind sensor, a protective hood or a remote control. Because every awning is custom made, we quote each project after a visit to your home. We measure the space, show you fabric samples and give you a written price with no obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a retractable awning last?
With routine care, a quality retractable awning lasts many years. The frame is built to last, and the fabric can be replaced when it eventually fades or wears. Our awning maintenance guide explains how to keep yours in good shape.
Can a retractable awning stay out in the rain?
Light rain is fine if the awning is pitched so water runs off. In heavy rain, strong wind or snow, retract the awning. A motorized awning with a wind sensor does this for you.
Do I need a permit for a retractable awning in Connecticut?
Requirements vary by town. Some towns treat a wall-mounted awning as a minor addition that needs no permit, while others ask for one. We can tell you what applies to your address when we visit.
Can you install an awning on a house with vinyl siding?
Yes. Retractable awnings mount to the framing behind the siding, not to the siding itself, so they can be installed on vinyl, wood, brick or stucco homes.
What is the best time of year to order?
Orders placed in late winter or early spring are usually installed in time for the first warm weekends. Summer is the busiest season, so booking early gets you the most choice of installation dates.
