An aluminum patio cover turns a patio that is too hot or too wet to use into outdoor space you can count on. It shades the patio on sunny days, keeps rain and snow off the area underneath and needs very little upkeep compared with wood.
If your patio sits in full sun, you already know how quickly it becomes uncomfortable in a Connecticut summer. Here are the main benefits of covering it, and the choices you will have.
What an Aluminum Patio Cover Does for Your Home
Protection From Sun, Rain and Snow
A patio cover offers protection in all types of weather. It keeps the patio at a more comfortable temperature on hot, sunny days and shelters people, furniture and grills from rain and snow. Aladdin Inc installs aluminum and fabric patio covers for homes across Connecticut.
More Usable Living Space
When the patio is comfortable, you use it more. A covered patio works for meals, parties, barbecues or a shaded play area for children. In effect, you gain living space without building an addition.
Less Exposure to UV Rays
A patio cover reduces the amount of UV light reaching the patio. That is easier on your skin and on outdoor furniture and cushions that fade in direct sun.
Lattice or Solid: How Much Shade Do You Want?
You can control how much shade you get by the style of cover you choose. A lattice patio cover filters the sunlight, and the spacing of the lattice tubes can be set to provide the amount of shade you prefer.
If you would rather block the sun altogether, an insulated patio cover creates full shade and keeps rain off the patio as well.
Why Aluminum Is a Practical Material
It Lasts With Little Maintenance
Aluminum is long-lasting and durable. Unlike wood, it will not rot, and it does not rust. There is no scraping, staining or sealing to keep up with year after year.
It Resists Fire
Fire can destroy wood and melt vinyl. Aluminum is fire-resistant, which offers some peace of mind when the cover sits close to the house or near a grill.
It Can Be Recycled
Aluminum is completely recyclable, so the material does not have to end up in a landfill at the end of its life.
It Adds Appeal for Buyers
A comfortable, covered outdoor area is a feature many buyers look for. A well-built patio cover can make your home more attractive if you decide to sell in the future.
Patio Cover or Retractable Awning?
A patio cover is a fixed structure, so the shade and shelter are always there. If you would like sun on some days and shade on others, a retractable awning for your deck or patio may suit you better because it rolls back against the house when you do not need it.
